Research overview: kodkod behavior and activity

This overview compiles what is known of kodkod behavior and activity from camera-trap and telemetry studies in Chile. The species is reported to be active both by day and night, with patterns that may shift in response to human disturbance toward greater nocturnality near settlements. It is an agile climber, using trees for resting and refuge, and maintains home ranges within forest and forest-edge habitats. Solitary and secretive, the kodkod is seldom observed directly. Documenting its behavior and activity is valuable because the species is among the lesser-known small cats, and because understanding how it uses time and space, and how it adjusts to human presence, informs efforts to conserve it within increasingly humanized forest landscapes.
