Using elevation data and sea-level projections, the authors estimated that a relatively modest rise could inundate a large share of tiger habitat in the Bangladesh Sundarbans, sharply reducing the area available and the number of tigers it could support. The work was among the first to put concrete numbers on climate-driven habitat loss for a big cat, and it galvanized attention on the Sundarbans as a frontline of climate impacts, where a low-lying coastal forest leaves tigers little room to retreat.
